US firm Motorola has purchased half of Swedish firm UIQ, a company responsible for graphic interfaces on mobile phones, in particular smartphones.
The 50% stake was purchased from another mobile phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson who only purchased UIQ last year, the financial details of the deal have yet to be disclosed.
UIQ is a specialist in smart phone software – particularly graphical interfaces, this software is extremely important for mobile phone manufacturers since the software can be customised for different mobile phone handsets.
This can save significant amounts of money for both Sony Ericsson and Motorola, which explains why UIQ is such an attractive investment opportunity for both companies.
